• KE7FD, is an Amateur Radio station call sign held by Glen Roberts and located on the outskirts of Pittsburgh, PA, USA
  • First licensed in 1972, Glen held various call signs until receiving KE7FD as an Advanced Class opertor, then upgraded to Amateur Extra in 2000.
  • Preferred mode of operation is PSK these days using a homebuilt PC card interface between his IC-706MKIIG and a PIII PC.
  • Although there's two antennas hanging out back, a 20 meter half-square, and a NVRIS 80 meter loop, the better of the two is the loop and is used as an all-band antenna.  If you've worked KE7FD it was probably on the loop.  Suspended at various points, the loop is held aloft using pullies and counterweights. This allows the antenna to "float" with the swaying of the trees in windy conditions.  The antenna is made from copperweld material to minimize stretching and fed with a 1:1 balun. Probably due to imperfect terrain at the site, this antenna has allowed QSO's to take place as far away as South America, Europe and as close as Ohio.
